Sharpen your blades and prime the bongs for some sacred smoke, because stoner faves the Sword are getting back together. Two years after announcing their breakup, the Austin, Texas, outfit have just revealed that they're playing a hometown set this fall as part of this year's Levitation Festival.

News of the reunion arrived today (June 27th) amid the full fest announcement, with both organizers and the Sword confirming over socials that they'll be riding high for a reunion set at Austin's Stubbs venue on November 3rd. The show will also feature performances from proto-metal heavies Pentagram, as well Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol and the Well.

The Sword didn't say much over socials beyond that, so it's unclear if the Levitation set is a one-off or the start of a new chapter for the band.

As previously reported, the Sword vocalist-guitarist John D. Cronise announced in 2022 that he'd come to the "difficult conclusion" of dissolve the band, which he'd founded in 2004 and had shepherded through six albums of heavy-spliffed riff-worship. The group's last LP was 2018's Used Future.

This year's installment of the Levitation Festival will take place between October 31st and November 3rd. On top of nightly performances from jam punks Osees, the event will also include sets from the Jesus Lizard, Slowdive, Pissed Jeans, Boris, Slift, Nitzer Ebb, A Place to Bury Strangers, Cortex, Gang of Four and more.
