Coming off the recent release of their punky "Plucked" single, Destroy Boys have confirmed that their "new era" will also include a whole new album of tunes. The Sacramento, CA quartet's fourth full-length release has been given the fitting title of Funeral Soundtrack #4, and they're starting the procession early with a music video for the album's closing "Boyfeel."
A press release explains that vocalist Alexia Roditis started writing the distorted, but pop-swung new tune years ago when they were 17, and that the track concerns their "evolving relationship with gender nonconformity."
With some of that in mind, the video is bookended by different binding rituals, while also finding Destroy Boys celebrating themselves while swimming, partying, and making out. You can check out the video up above.
As for Funeral Soundtrack #4, the album was produced by Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, The Linda Lindas, Best Coast). The 11-song release touches on the punk foundation of the group's earliest work, but is said to also reflect interests in bossa nova, as well as "gothier inspirations" like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Cocteau Twins. It also features members of Mannequin Pussy and Scowl on penultimate cut "You Hear Yes."
"Looking back, our first three albums marked the deaths of things," guitarist Violet Mayugba said in a statement. "They were soundtracks to our funerals, whether they were for our ages or our mental states. We've gone through a lot of changes as a band and as people."
While the band recently had to drop off of a North American tour with Mother Mother and Cavetown due to health issues, Destroy Boys are back on the road by July for a series of U.S. and European dates. You'll find the tour route, along with the new album's tracklisting, down below.
