Hear DEFTONES-approved shoegazers COLD GAWD's yearning new song

First taste of upcoming 'I'll Drown on This Earth' album

On-the-rise shoegazers Cold Gawd will make their grand return this summer, with a new album dubbed I'll Drown on This Earth due to arrive August 30th via Dais Records. Ahead of the full reveal, though, the Deftones-approved outfit have dropped the distortion-crushed first single "All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name."

A press release explains that Cold Gawd's second full-length for Dais was mostly written in 2022, with vocalist-guitarist Matt Wainwright refining the hazy hooks before the band entered Anaheim, California's Paradise Recorders with Colin Knight (Object of Affection) this past March.

The eight-song release is said to conjure "moods of surreality, infatuation and melancholy," which fits the bill nicely with the record's lead single, an amp-dimed heartbreaker which you can hear up above.

Wainwright wrote his lyrics a week before the sessions started. Of the record's first preview, he said: "What I'm trying to say with this song and the whole record was best said by [Beach House's] Victoria Legrand when she said to 'trust in yourself and trust in the people that love because those are the people that matter most.'"

I'll Drown on This Earth follows God Get Me the Fuck Out of Here, the band's breakthrough release from 2022 that ended up nabbing them acclaim and a spot at Deftones' Dia De Los Deftones event that year.

Ahead of releasing their new LP, Cold Gawd will undertake a quick West Coast toue in July, while they also have some California dates lined up around the record release.
