The results are in: Y'all are having sex. Often while listening to Deftones. That's just one of a few metal-minded takeaways from a new ZipHealth study on what music fans are generally streaming in their "sex playlist."
Ziphealth, an online doctor and prescription service, compiled the data by surveying 1,000 people on both their sex lives and their music streaming choices. They found that pop music was, well, the most popular form of music in the bedroom, with respondents adding that they were generally streaming the steamy sounds of Canadian crossover artist the Weeknd to get in the mood.
Out of the top eight musical genres examined in the poll, metal ranked at No. 7 behind pop, rap, R&B, indie rock, alternative and EDM. It beat classic rock, though.
Within the genre, metal fans said they love hearing Chino Moreno moaning all hot-and-bothered above a Deftones groove while they're having sex. Slipknot ranked No. 2, while System of a Down rounded out the top three vote-getters.
Metal did rank higher in a few select categories. 72 percent of respondents, for instance, said they preferred something heavy playing when they were exploring fetishes; to that end, the sleaze-dustrial sound of Nine Inch Nails' iconic "Closer" was the No. 1 song for BDSM playlists, and the fifth sexiest song overall. A true favorite among you filthy animals.
Metal likewise rated pretty well in terms of endurance, ranking at No. 4 on the list, with respondents reporting an estimated average of 30.8 minutes per session. That said, the finer points of this are unclear on whether we're talking about slow-mo doom metal, a triumphantly galloping NWOBHM beat or an intensely-blasted grind.
Metal fans also creeped into the Top 3 for having had a one-night stand (82 percent), as well as when taking part in an orgy (21 percent) or threesome (54 percent).
