Massachusetts band transforms Nineties stoner ode into total stomper

When it comes to powerpop, especially that of the 90s, the Lemonheads are one of the most important bands of the style. Both their classic It's a Shame About Ray and Come on Feel the Lemonheads are brilliantly executed landmarks of the era, with their biggest hit coming from the former's cover of "Mrs. Robinson" (which frontman Evan Dando later disowned).

Lemonheads have also been experiencing a resurgence in popularity among the new wave of hardcore acts, including Trapped Under Ice/Turnstile side-project Angel Du$t. Massachusetts' punks Urochromes are also among the band's devotees, as they prove with their ripping cover of "Style" — which Revolver is premiering today (May 17th).

Culled from Lemonhead's 1993 Come on Feel the Lemonheads, the original "Style" is 90s grunge-y punk-y in execution (think Bleach-era Nirvana), but Urochromes up the crazy for their rendition, blasting drum beats at almost grindcore speeds and making the entire track a technologically acid-fried freakout. Think Chrome on tons of speed and psychedelics reinterpreting that classic and you're in the ballpark.

In short, Urochrome's approach turns a previously fun and inertly aggressive track into a drugged-out assault – one that needs to be heard. Check it out for the first time above and order your copy of the band's debut LP Trope House via Wharf Cat ahead of its May 31st release.
