Fans were delighted when the retired Mötley Crüe announced they would return to record four brand new songs for the soundtrack to The Dirt, the screen adaptation of the band's best-selling 2001 biography of the same name. In continuing the namesake tradition, the Crüe dropped the first of the tracks today titled "The Dirt (Est. 1981)."
The raunchy, anthemic song, their first new material since 2015's "All Bad Things," features rapper Machine Gun Kelly (who plays drummer Tommy Lee in the film) on a particularly bawdy verse that hits all the band's major ticks: strippers with big lips and breasts, drug references, and masochistic tendencies toward excess. It's a classic glam rock track with updated production and effects that showcases guitar solos, crowd-pleasing stadium riffs, and a chant-able chorus that will surely thrill fans who've waited a long time for this.
As with most things Mötely Crüe, what you see is what you get. What they lack in profound depth, that make up for with their inescapable ability to inspire Bacchanalian behavior in the hard-partying masses. "The Dirt (Est. 1981)" certainly isn't about to change the world, but it might make it a little more fun place to live.
