Following last month's arty but ambiguous teaser trailer, Ghost have now officially announced their big screen debut. The Swedish occult-rock troupe's debut movie is titled RITE HERE RIGHT NOW, and it'll hit the cinema circuit as a two-night-only global event, scheduled for June 20th and 22nd.
As rumored, RITE HERE RIGHT NOW is more than just a concert film; it combines never-before-seen live footage with a narrative that picks up the plot threads from the band's Chapters webisode series. The movie was directed by Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge and filmmaker Alex Ross Perry, who'd previously helmed the group's sermonistic "Jesus He Knows Me" video.
"Collaborating with Tobias to expand the saga of Ghost into a feature film has been a wicked delight," Perry commented. "This movie allowed us to be inspired by everything from silent horror to The Great Rock n' Roll Swindle, from Ralph Bakshi to KISS Alive II. The influences were many, but above all, the ultimate goal was to make a one-of-a-kind feast not only for Ghost fans, but all lovers of the cinematic alchemy between rock spectacle and spooky delights."
As previously reported, the movie incorporates live footage filmed during Ghost's two-night stint at The Forum in Inglewood, California, last fall. The setlist pulls from all five Ghost full-lengths. As for the narrative, it'll concentrate on central figure Papa Emeritus IV and how the frontman's "future and fate lay in the hands of the Ministry." The film stars Maralyn Facey, Alan Ursillo, Ashley McBride and Kevin "Jesus" Kaufmann.
A proper trailer is set to go live on May 9th, the same day tickets go on sale. There will also be an accompanying original motion picture soundtrack release behind RITE HERE RITE NOW, which will be issued via Loma Vista Records, with full details coming soon.
