BOOTLEG: "THE UNIT"
Longtime Revolver readers will remember a thing we used to do in the mag called "The Unit." It involved inviting a band to come into our office and write/record an original tune in just one-to-three hours on this portable recording "Unit" that the good folks at Roland and Core One were kind enough to put together for us. For me, it was one of the coolest things I've gotten to do here: to witness and, in a way, be a part of the actual creative process of some of my favorite bands. It was also fascinating how different groups handled the challenge differently—some took it very seriously, tried to craft songs that might fit into their existing catalog; others went to the other extreme and wrote total goofs or explored styles that they don't generally write in.
We suspended the section over a year ago for a variety of reasons, but since it seems like an awful waste to let the resulting songs go unheard by the magazine's newer readers (as well as by older readers who missed out the first time around), I've posted here some of the best of the "Unit" tracks. So crank up the volume, motherfuckers—this some exclusive shit.

memories
ah...the memories of sitting for hours and watching bands struggle to make a meaningful tune under the gun. Every time I walk by the Unit in the back of the office I get teary eyed.
Brandon's unit - heh heh!

Suggestion
Just go ahead and post everything!
I miss hearing a new track every month recorded on "The Unit"!
I remember Obituary did a track at one point didn't they?
And the Mindless Self Indulgence song ended up being pretty popular. Wasn't it called "Bitches"?
Funny tune!

Thanks for putting these up
Thanks for putting these up man!
I really like the DEP, Meshuggah, and Sepultura ones the most.
glad y'all are enjoying my unit
Yeah, I dig the DEP and Meshuggah ones, too, and the Genghis Tron. Those 3 are my favorites I think. To the previous commenter, I can't find the Obituary "unit" track anywhere. If anyone has it from downloading it the first time around, get in touch. MSI actually never participated in the Unit. Made Out of Babies did, though. I'll try to find their song and put it up here.

Actually, this IS all of the songs...minus maybe an Obituary noise track, which I can't find anywhere, I swear - that's the only reason that one isn't up. But yeah, these are The Unit tracks.
meshuggah and gengis tron

Seemless!
Why no love for Seemless? That track is badass! I actually downloaded it the first time around and I still rock out when it comes up on my iPod.

After going through countless unlabeled cdr's, I found the elusive Obituary track!!
Now where do I send it and what prize do I collect?
